Ubisoft say Assassin’s Creed 4 Sales Decrease due to Next-gen Launch
Assassin’s Creed 4 sales had dropped by 60% over Assassin’s Creed 3 in the UK, a pattern which has affected all the big releases these past few weeks. However Ubisoft has put the blame for the lack of sales down to the launch of next-gen consoles.
Ubisoft CEO Yves Guillemot stated during the publishers Q2 Financial results, “Looking at Assassin’s Creed, its first week sales are down versus last year as players are waiting for the arrival of the next-generation of consoles,”
“The game is the best rated Christmas title. Players and journalists praised its unique setting, huge freedom and variety of gameplay, as well its fantastic open-sea pirate adventures. We will have a clearer picture of [Assassin's Creed 4's] potential once the next-gen consoles are released,” Guillemot continued. “We are confident it will be among the top three best-sellers of November and December.”
It was pretty obvious that the launch of next-gen consoles being just around the corner played a big role in the huge drop in sales, but the fact that titles such as Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag and Battlefield 4 had seen a decrease of over 60% in sales can’t surely all be contributed to next-gen? Like Guillemot said though, we will have a much better picture once the next-gen consoles have been released.
