Steam Summer Sale: Day 1

It’s that time of the year again, prepare your wallets - it’s the Steam Summer Sale.

Steam Summer Sale: Day 1 Daily Deals are still up for just a few more hours, so make sure you grab yourself some of these great games at their extra discounted price. For those of you unfamiliar with the Steam sales, the best tactic is to either grab yourself the game in the ‘Daily Deal’, ‘Flash Sale’ or ‘Community Choice’ as these are discounted further than the standard 10% or 15% discounts you’ll see on practically all titles. Wait until the final day to purchase any games that don’t appear in these deals!

So here’s the rundown of Day 1′s Daily Deals! I won’t be covering all the Flash Sales or Community Choice discounts as these will be particularly difficult to keep track of, so make sure you check back on these yourself!

Pick of the Day - Bioshock Infinite [50% Discount - $29.99USD, £17.49GBP, $39.99AUD]

Bioshock Infinite is Irrational Games’ First Person Shooter title created in Unreal Engine 3 with a metacritic score of 94. Without a doubt a strong ‘Game of the Year’ candidate for 2013, this game is certainly one that you need to play. Whether or not you liked the first Bioshock game, this game is still one to check out. It improves on almost every aspect of the game, notably the combat engine and gameplay mechanics. However, it is the inclusion of the most useful companion ever, Elizabeth, that truly gives this game a unique feel.

Don’t Starve [40% Discount - $8.99USD, £9.59GBP, $8.99AUD]

Don’t Starve is an open world survival game developed and published by Klei Entertainment. It’s Tim Burton-esque art style provides for an interesting experience as your try to survive for the longest possible time, fighting off starvation, insanity and hostile enemies. It has received positive reviews from critics and has a metacritic score of 79. Certainly worth a look if you’re interested in survival games.

Endless Space [66% Discount - $10.19USD, £8.49GBP, $10.19AUD]

Endless Space is a turn based strategy, science fiction game developed by Amplitude Studios set in 3000AD, a somewhat Civilization in space. The mechanics for this game appear to to be slightly more complicated than I personally would like, but the attention to detail of the gameplay aspects certainly has to be admired. For the strategists among you, this may be your new “one-more-click” game.

Hotline Miami [75% Discount - $2.49USD, £1.74GBP, $2.49AUD]

Hotline Miami is a brutal 2D top-down game from Dennaton Games. With a fantastic 85 metascore, this game is a must-have at such a low price. Blending stealth and absolute mayhem with the top-down feel, alongside the 80s style and pixelated graphics, this game will certainly give your it’s money’s worth.

Toki Tori 2+ [34% Discount - $9.89USD, £7.91GBP, $9.89AUD]

Toki Tori 2+ is a platformer from Two Tribes Games. With no tutorials or “handholding” this game supposedly allows you to explore and do what you want in order to try and progress through the game. Certainly a very colourful game that is always nice to see it a platformer, your character doesn’t have much in the way of abilities which will certainly present more of a challenge throughout certain puzzles.

Left 4 Dead 2 [75% Discount - $4.99USD, £3.74GBP, $4.99AUD]

Valve’s instant classic Left 4 Dead follows on from the original by adding a new story, characters, maps and of course, new enemies and weapons. This fast-paced zombie-survival FPS is an absolute must have if you haven’t tried this or the original game before. Boasting a metascore of 89, the gameplay of this game provides a unique zombie slaying experience, unmatched by any other series.

Scribblenauts Unlimited [75% Discount - $4.99USD, £3.74GBP, $4.99AUD]

Scribblenauts Unlimited is a puzzle game that allows you to create or spawn virtually anything to progress through the games. From simply spawning a dog to making Link or Mario fight it out, this game is surprisingly hilarious at times but seems to become repetitive. There’s only so many times you can send a dinosaur out to terrorise a cartoon city without it becoming mundane. However, for just $5, this game could certainly become a welcome addition to your game library.

Call of Juarez Gunslinger [33% Discount - $10.04USD, £8.03GBP, $12.02AUD]

Call of Juarez Gunslinger is a western themed first person shooter from Techland featuring three unique gameplay types of Story, Arcade and Duel. Including gameplay elements such as bullet time and gunslinger duels return from previous Call of Juarez games whilst also sometimes being able to dodge bullets via a quicktime event. Fans of the series should certainly return to it with this title.

Antichamber [66% Discount - $6.79USD, £5.09GBP, $6.79AUD]

Antichamber is a single player, first person, puzzle-platformer indie title from Alexander Bruce that has received very positive reviews. An extremely interesting art style aids the core mechanics of this game and produces something that is truly unique. Certainly a far cry from AAA published titles.

Defiance [66% Discount - $13.59USD, £6.79GBP, $13.59AUD]

Defiance is a game based on the TV show of the same name, a third-person MMO sci-fi game from Trion Games. Reviews have been extremely hit and miss on this title, with a metacritic score of just 65 whilst some people have praised it as extremely fun. At such a low price however, it could be worth the risk.

Please feel free to leave your recommendations and reviews on these games in the comments below! And remember that even if you miss out on these daily deals, the games could still return in the flash sales or community picks!
