State of Decay Multiplayer Cancelled
Jeff Strain of Undead Labs has confirmed that the Xbox Arcade’s newest hit State of Decay will not be updated to support co-op multiplayer. However, he does go on to say that “co-op multiplayer will be the absolute heart of any future State of Decay games”. The game was initially planned to include co-op multiplayer but this was scrapped during development due to technical issues of retrofitting the game engine to support an open-world sandbox game rather than the FPS game it was initially designed to support.
Undead Labs are planning on focusing their efforts on title updates and DLC in order to support the already extremely successful and critically acclaimed game. Although many people will be upset and angry about the scrapped plans for co-op multiplayer, it will certainly be exciting to see what Undead Labs will have in store for any planned sequels to the game, especially as it seems to be that they may be building a new game engine in order to fully support multiplayer instead of trying to retrofit a multiplayer component in the old engine.
