Starbound Closed Beta Available on December 4th

If you were one of the many who pre-ordered the anticipated, Terraria-like space adventure game, Starbound, then you will be happy to hear that you won’t have to wait too much longer to try your hands at the game.

For almost a year, the Starbound team has been teasing at a 2013 beta release, though it was only recently that it was given an actual date, and with a little over 100,000 backers and over $2,000,000 in pre-order donations, it is no doubt that people were hyped for the game. Much like Terraria, the player is set in a 2D sidescroller environment and is left to build structures and tools in order to survive, though Starbound goes beyond that by giving the player seven playable races, many planets to explore and harvest, quests, spaceship customization, space crews, and a much more in-depth survival system that includes hunger and temperature.

Although the beta is to release soon, they have announced that it will come in three stages, the first of which starting Wednesday. They also say that this first stage will have quite a bit of bugs and will also lack the seventh playable race, Novakids. Nonetheless, those who simply can’t wait to start mining planets and battling aliens can rest easy knowing that they won’t have to wait long, and they are still accepting pre-orders for the time being, so there is still a chance to get your hands on a beta key as well.
