PS4 Sells 1 Million Units on First Day
Friday, November 15th, saw the US release of the PS4, and within 24 hours a massive 1 million units had been sold! This figure makes the PS4 release the strongest launch ever for a gaming platform.
The demand for the PS4 has been “phenomenal”, according to Sony, with many stores placing ‘sold out’ signs in their windows. The demand for the PS4 is expected to continue with the upcoming Europe, Latin America and Australia launch on the 29th. Sony have also stated that they are looking to sell 3 million globally by the end of the year, and then 5 million by the end of the financial year.
However, the launch has seen its fair share of hiccups with some consoles being ‘dead on arrival’ and the Playstation Network going down when the wave of new PS4 users first hit the servers. Although, at the time of writing, problems seem to be starting to smooth out and the Playstation Network is now back to normal.
With the Xbox One’s release on the horizon, which is followed by the EU release of the PS4, it can be said that we are now well and truly entering the dawn of next-gen. It’s an exciting time to be a gamer!
