Microsoft to reveal DirectX 12
Microsoft will reveal the next major version of their DirectX API at GDC 2014 on March 20th.
Microsoft plan to show off the newest version of the graphics software at GDC 2014 and have posted a ‘teaser’ for the reveal, with the company logos of AMD, nVidia, Intel and Qualcomm, suggesting that all of these companies will be supporting DirectX 12 when it launches. The last major version of DirectX API was released in 2009.
Microsoft DirectX is a collection of Application Programming Interfaces for handling tasks related to multimedia, particularly game programming, on Microsoft platforms. An upgraded version of the graphical software should serve to provide better performance out of the games that utilise it.
Microsoft also have planned GDC talks around DirectX 11 and Direct3D.
