Microsoft Acquire Xbone.com - After Major Nelson says he finds it disrespectful
Major Nelson was not a fan of people calling their next-gen console the Xbone instead of it’s name, Xbox One. However Microsoft have acquired the domain name Xbone.com according to the latest WHOIS records.
Larry Hryb (Major Nelson) had earlier this week stated on NeoGAF regarding people using the term Xbone, “I don’t like it…it disrespects the teams that have put in thousands of hours (already) into the development of the product. Sure, it’s cheeky but I don’t care for it myself.”
In July, Microsoft lawyers took charge of the domain names XboxOne.com and XboxOne.net after filing a dispute with the National Arbitration Forum, however no domain dispute was filed regarding the Xbone.com domain, so it’s like that the owner of the domain received a cash payment for his troubles.
As for what Microsoft plan to do with their newly acquired domain name remains to be seen, but with all the attention the name had got this week, it’s no surprise that Microsoft chose to take advantage. Although knowing Microsoft it would come as no surprise if they were to bury the domain name, never to be seen again.
The Xbox One will be launching November 22.
