GTA V on Next Gen Consoles and PC?

The big question on many gamers minds right now is whether they will see a release of GTA V on Next Gen consoles and PC? With a huge 200,000+ signature petition from fans calling to Rockstar to release a PC version of the game currently active and a lot of speculation around a next gen console release – what can we expect?

Grand Theft Auto 5 is one of the most highly anticipated games of this year, with more and more hype being generated with each trailer and screenshot that Rockstar are showing off – but will we see this game released on the next generation of consoles or the PC at all? Rockstar are saying nothing too detailed at the moment.

“The only versions of the game that we have announced are for the Xbox 360 and Playstation 3 which are set for a September 17th worldwide release”

“We don’t have anything to share about the possibility of a next-gen or a PC platform release at this time and we are completely focused on delivering the best possible experience for the consoles people have right now.”

So will we ever see a release for Grand Theft Auto 5 on the next generation and on PC? In my opinion, yes. The reason Rockstar will not be announcing any release for any other platforms at the moment is to maximise sales and profits for the current generation.

If Rockstar came out with a release date for the PC platform or the next generation of consoles, there is a potential that some people would wait it out for this release instead of purchasing it on the current generation – where as if they wait until the next generation of consoles is released to announce this, there will be a situation where a large amount of people will end up purchasing the game across two different platforms. This clever marketing from Rockstar will nigh on double their sales of their game that is already set to break sales records in the UK.

The similar architecture of the next-generation consoles and the PC will certainly also mean that a PC release will come alongside or shortly after a port is complete for the next-generation set of consoles – but again, this will not come until after the release in September. My estimation is that we will not see anything in terms of next-generation or PC releases until 2014, but they will come.

Grand Theft Auto 5 is currently scheduled for release on September 17th for Xbox 360 and PS3 only.
