With the next-generation being less than two weeks old, there has already been talk about when the “next-generation” will arrive, and that is exactly what EA have done.
EA Studios EVP Patrick Soderlund was talking to MCV where he revealed that he expects the next-generation to arrive in around 5 or 6 years time, stating that he believes the lifespan of Xbox One and PS4 will not match up to that of their predecessors and will come to an end several years sooner than Xbox 360 and PS3 did.
“This console cycle [360/PS3] may have gone on a little bit longer than I would have wanted,” Soderlund told MCV.
“At the same time, you have seen games like The Last of Us and GTA V at the end of a cycle which perhaps you would not have expected a few years ago. But a five, six year gap is what I expect going forward.”
Despite what Soderlund has said, Microsoft has previously stated that they expect Xbox One to last “conservatively a decade”.
Would you welcome a new generation in 2018/2019?
