Destiny’s Level Cap Explained
Bungie has explained how leveling will work in Destiny and what you can expect from the game after hitting the level cap.
Destiny has a soft level cap of 20. I say soft as after you hit level 20, you will no longer gain experience points as you would for any level before 20. Instead you are given “Motes of Light” These Motes of Light are then crafted into special armor and weapons at the Tower, the game’s social hub.
The crafted goods boost your characters stats to levels that go beyond 20 (highest seen being 29) but the game’s character menu will always show level 20.
The armor and weapons have a light statistic but it is currently unknown what the statistic means for your character’s level.
Designer Sage Merrill detailed what to expect at level 20 to IGN in this video. “You’ve got all the tools in your toolbox and can go out and do pretty much any activity you like,”. These activities can include the game’s 6-man raids, which are said to be a challenge, needing many attempts to finally beat.
Destiny will be released for the Playstation 4, Playstation 3, Xbox One, and the Xbox 360 on September 9, 2014.
