DayZ Standalone Sells Over 800k Copies in Under 1 Month
The success of DayZ continues to grow having sat as Steam’s top selling game since its launch on December 16. Even with the Steam Christmas sale taking place DayZ retained top spot throughout. Over the weekend Dean Hall announced on Reddit that the DayZ Standalone Alpha has so far sold 800,000 copies on Steam’s Early Access in under a month. Bohemia had anticipated around 250k sales within a quarter, however those expectations have been well and truly surpassed.
“We (Bohemia and I) had very ambitious plans for 2014 already, however this amount of sales was completely unexpected. Honestly, 250k within a quarter was what I would have considered a success. So to move nearly 800,000 in under a month is crazy.”
“We’ll be finalizing our roadmap in mid January, but it is safe to say that this kind of result will be having a very positive effect on that roadmap.”
Within the first week of release alone, DayZ had sold around 400,000 copies. Its release proving how successful Alpha releases can be, especially for development as Hall confirmed that the amount of sales will have a positive effect on development, however the team have stated previously that it will be around a year until the game enters Beta.
