China Removes Long-Standing Ban on Game Consoles
Did you know that, for the last fourteen years, China has had a ban on video game consoles? Well, seems as though only recently, that ban has been lifted, just in time to cash in on the recent releases of the Playstation 4 and Xbox One.
Previously, consumers in the Shanghai Free Trade Zone had to resort to the black market for their console gaming needs since early 2000 in hope of shunning out violent and otherwise suggestive content to many gamers. Although they were not restricted to PC gaming, it would seem as though this lift has had a positive effect on major gaming companies. Nintendo has seen their Tokyo shares jump over 10%, and Microsoft had moved up 1%.
State council has declared this to be temporary, so only time can tell if this will really stick or not, though it’s certainly proving to be quite the successful act in the most populated nation in the world.
