Stranded Deep is a game about survival in the truest sense of the word. It’s a realistic survival game that’s for sure. Stranded on a desert island in the Pacific after your plane has crashed, it is your job to survive by gathering supplies and using what the island has to offer to stay fed, hydrated and healthy. Hunt for food and craft the items you need to survive. You can also build yourself a shelter on the island or build a raft and take to the sea in a hunt for food and new islands to explore and survive on. According to developer Beam Team, you will come face to face with some of the most life threatening scenarios that will result in a different experience each time you play.

The Forest is an open-world, first-person horror survival game which places you on a remote island full of cannibals after your plane came down, killing everyone on-board apart from yourself. The Long Dark is an exploration-survival game which challenges players to think for themselves and survive in the freezing cold of a frozen wilderness. Set in the back drop of a geomagnetic disaster, you must monitor your calorie count, hunger and thirst, fatigue, and body temperature. You must maintain your overall condition if you want to live otherwise you will face death.
The Long Dark features a large open-world filled with places to explore, animals to hunt and survivors to stumble across. It is up to you whether or not you risk contact, with every decision having an impact in this deep survival simulator. The Long Dark is one of my favourites and is definitely one of the best survival games you can buy, the potential it has is insane.

Life is Feudal is set in a medieval world where you must survive and flourish. Being a medieval survival game, you start the game with nothing but a few items and from there you must scavenge for food and gather supplies. Life is Feudal is a very challenging and hardcore game and is very unforgiving with a steep learning curve, however the possibilities it gives you are endless. You can build your own houses, castles, villages and towns and team up with other players or fight against them.
Life is Feudal: YO is the single-player version of the MMO currently being developed, however owners of Your Own will be able to play the MMO when released, but they are two completely separate games.

Miscreated is an open-world survival MMO set in the aftermath of a nuclear war where you must survive against mutants, other humans and mother nature. Miscreated looks good and has a great atmospheric tone to is as it is built using CryEngine. The game takes place in a 64km2 world with a dynamic weather system and a full day/night cycle. Currently in Alpha, players will also be able to create their own bases. Players are unforgiving in Miscreated however, as you would expect in a game of this nature.
While it’s no DayZ, Miscreated does have potential and hours of fun can be had. It’s more enjoyable in a group but with more content being added you’ll get your money’s worth with Miscreated.

DayZ is arguably the most popular and well known zombie survival game currently on the market. Not for the faint-hearted, DayZ is a hardcore, survival simulator set during the backdrop of a zombie apocalypse in the country of Chernarus, a 230 square KM stretch of land featuring cities, villages, forests and abandoned military bases. Compared to the original DayZ mod, the standalone adds lots of customization to the game, spawning hundreds of different items and clothing for players to find and wear, from normal civilian gear to military clothing. Players must hunt and cook food in order to survive, find fresh water to stay hydrated and fight off diseases such as cholera. Not only that, but players are your biggest threat, not the zombies. DayZ also now has vehicles making travelling around Chernarus a lot easier, safer, and quicker!

H1Z1 is the latest and one of the best zombie survival games to arrive on the market. The game puts players in the middle of a zombie apocalypse and is set in middle America where players can build their own bases and even create their own towns similar to that of The Walking Dead. The initiative and in-depth crafting system is also a strong feature allowing players to craft their own weapons and ammo as well as backpacks, building materials and traps. The game also features vehicles making traveling around the map easier. However in H1Z1 the other human players are often more of a threat than the actual zombies themselves, so beware! You can check out our Alpha Review where we discuss more about the features and what the game is like.
