$10 PS4 Game Upgrades Detailed by Sony
News broke somewhat recently of Microsoft’s plan to offer $10 upgrades on games coming out for both current and next-gen consoles. This left PS3 players hanging in limbo as to whether Sony would join in. Well you can now stop worrying, as Sony has released details of how one can go about this process for PS3/PS4 games as well.
Basically, if you’re so anxious to play Battlefield 4, Watch Dogs, Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag, or Call of Duty: Ghosts that you want to get it for Xbox 360/PS3, but still plan to upgrade to either of the new consoles coming out at around the same time and want to play those games on there as well, you won’t have to ultimately pay $120 for both versions of the games. Instead, should you buy the game full price on the Xbox 360 or PS3, the game will come with specific instructions on how to get the next-gen version of the game for only $10. This offer is doable with either the hard copy or digital versions of the games on PS3, and the process does vary a bit.
For the hard copy version, a code will be included inside the box that should be redeemed on the Playstation Store (this can be done on the PS3) via your account. Then, once you have the Playstation 4, you simply log on to your same account on the Playstation Network and locate the the digital version of the same game on the Store. It’ll prompt you to pay $9.99 for the full game. After you download it, you must insert PS3 disc into the PS4 order to play the game. This apparently prevents a loss of sales that could be caused by people getting the PS4 game at a huge discount and then selling the PS3 version off at top dollar.
As for going through this process with the digital version, it’s very simple, no codes or discs involved. All you have to do is download the PS3 version of the game and on the PS4 console it’ll automatically be discounted at $9.99.
Gamers should note that this offer is NOT long lasting and will cease at the end of January 2014 for Assassin’s Creed and Watch Dogs, while the offer on Call of Duty: Ghosts and Battlefield 4 will cease at the end of March 2014. Whether you have a PS4 on pre-order or not, regardless of when you plan to get one, you should act fast on these deals. Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn is reportedly also participating in this special upgrade offer, but there is NO transfer fee. That means the game will basically be..well, free.
